Essie: Power Clutch

Today I'm wearing...

Essie's Power Clutch. Essie describes this color as "enigmatic darkest green", and I do agree that it's enigmatic. First of all, the picture above picked up too much blue. In real life, it looked either like a smoked out dark teal or a dark wet cement grey with green undertones. If I closed my eyes and thought "green", then when I opened them, I saw teal; if I thought "grey", then I saw wet cement. I couldn't decide. I guess I'll file it under both.

Application: Excellent formula. I applied two easy coats above.

Top coat: One coat of Poshe quick-dry top coat

Where to find: This is part of Essie's Fall 2011 Collection: Brand New Bag. It's already released, so look for it in salons, beauty supply stores, and drug stores nationwide.

Disclosure: I received this polish from the company for an unbiased review

  1. I'm really liking this color. I already see this collection at my Walgreens and I think I need to have this one.

I do like the color it's showing on screen, do you think there is a dark grayish blue color out there?
Was this like most Essie polishes as far as applying? I like their thinner formula sometimes.

  2. @Krissy, I feel bad that this pic came out so blue bc I don't like feeling like I'm misleading. It's definitely more like the description. Zoya Kelly looked greyish blue to me, but I've seen it looking more purple.

The formula was really great. Essie thin, but not too thin.

  3. This color looks lovely! I see more wet cement then dark teal so I guess my brain files this under grey. Is OPI Ski Teal We Drop lighter and more blue than this?

  4. I think STWD is more blue, but I don't know about lighter. Where STWD leans black, PC leans wet cement.

If you want something lighter and bluer, check out Orly Sapphire Silk and Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Grey By Grey.

  5. How does this compare to Merino Cool? I'm wondering if I need both.

  6. @hauloffame, Whereas Merino Cool is a grey mixed with purple, this one is a grey mixed with green. They're definitely different.

  7. So excited to try this out. It looks like slate gray in the bottle so I'm curious how it'll apply.

  8. @Cat, kind of like a slate grey with green undertones, I think
