Zoya Pixie Dust: Nyx

Today I'm wearing...

Zoya's Nyx! Shatter may have come and gone as a nail trend, but it left in its wake a trend of TEXTURE. Smooth, shiny polishes just won't do anymore! OPI has released its Liquid Sand collection and Zoya has Pixie Dust. So what is Pixie Dust? It looks and feels like you have applied very fine and very soft colored sand to your nails. They dry matte rather than shiny. The Zoya colors also have little bits of silver glitter in them, so it looks kind of like the surface of a rock. It's not gritty or sharp, just not smooth. I LOVED the overall effect. It was special and unusual, but still pretty.

The color in these pictures is reading very periwinkle, whereas in real life it was more of a soft blue and had less purple in it. It really complimented my skin tone. Unique and pretty! It's going on my Top 10.

I used three thin coats here. And whereas I usually just slap on a coat of quick dry top coat and go about recklessly with my business, with these polishes, applying top coat really changes the effect. I don't want to say it "ruins" it because some of the OPI and Zoya ones actually look beautiful with it, but it does change it. So, instead, I had to air dry naturally and it took quite a while. In fact, Zoya admits that dry time on these is even longer than for normal polishes. But once it was dry, it wore like iron.

Where to find: You can find the Pixie Dust collection on Zoya.com for $9 each. There are six beautiful colors currently available and Zoya will release six additional brighter colors for Summer.

What do you think? Are you into this texture?

  1. I love these, I'm wearing Godiva right now and I also bought Vespa. Can't wait to see the Summer color swatches.

  2. I actually think Zoya's take on the textured trend is much more refined (literally!) than OPI's. But before I run out and invest in Pixie Dust, do you think I could achieve the same effect by putting a matte top coat on a glitter-dense polish?

  3. Hi @parapluieblog, I don't think it would be the same effect as a matte on top of a glitter dense polish. I say go for it. Maybe you can wait until Zoya has a promotion if you want to save some dough.

I like these better than OPI's too!
